With more than 12 years of experience in the IP field, Rajen Ramiah joined SCL Law Group in June 2015 as a Business Development Consultant. To kick-start in his new role, Rajen led efforts in rebranding the Group. With the Group recently celebrating its 10-year anniversary, Rajen was instrumental in the rebranding process, which involved creating a clear and impactful corporate identity for the Group and revamping the website content and design. The rebranding effort was a massive success.

Prior to joining SCL Law Group, Rajen Ramiah worked in the Middle East for Emirates Airlines and, prior to that, with several high-profile law firms in both Malaysia and Singapore, in the capacity of a Trademarks/IP Associate. He also worked for an IT company based in Memphis, Tennessee managing their international IP portfolio.

Rajen Ramiah has more than 12 years of experience in the IP field with his areas of practice including registration of trademarks and general advisory work relating to the various forms of IP rights, including trademarks, copyright and industrial design rights. His experience also includes advising on and drafting agreements relating to intellectual property, such as licensing, transfer and assignment, joint ownership and distributorship agreements.

In addition to his work with law firms, Rajen Ramiah’s legal experience in the Middle East had a strong focus on contracts within the tourism industry. He was assigned to work for a high-profile destination management company under the Emirates Airlines group of companies. His role there further extended to offering confidential support to three managers in different areas of the organisation (Operations Manager, Professional Conference Organiser, MICE Manager and Business Development Manager). In this role, Rajen Ramiah was responsible for a large portion of recruitment and HR performance management, planning and organisation, as well as the implementation of policies and procedures, organising training and team building activities.

Now with a good grasp of the legal background, Rajen is now focusing on the area of Business Development for the Group.

He has been actively promoting the Group’s credentials in various platforms, which resulted in the firm and its partners to be ranked and acknowledged by various prestigious magazines and professional bodies for their work within the legal fraternity.

The core aspect of his duties have been drafting and implementing business and marketing plans; Identifying campaigns to grow new and existing business; Managing directory submissions, league tables and awards; Coordinating events and conferences to improve market positions and generate leads for practice groups; Drafting and updating marketing materials.

In the midst of all these business development aspects of his career, Rajen is very much in-tune with legal developments within the IP practice group where his passion is. He is hands-on when it comes to drafting various correspondences and advice on many trademark and patent-related matters. On a broader perspective of IP related matters, Rajen has been highly involved in the operation of the regional bodies of AIPPI and APPA organisations, through the President of the Thai regional branches.

Rajen Ramiah performed voluntary work with an NGO as a researcher in the areas of human trafficking, smuggling and illegal immigration in Thailand, and the ASEAN region.
